The blaster pistol used by Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the other sequel movies has been shown in greater detail in some newly revealed concept art from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, along with an unused design for the weapon. Rey is best known for using a lightsaber in the Star Wars movies, and she has used several of them throughout the trilogy. These include a double-bladed red lightsaber used by Dark Rey during a single scene in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but she also has a blaster pistol for when targets need to be disposed of in a less civilized way.
Rey’s blaster pistol was given to her by Han Solo during the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as he felt she needed a weapon. The blaster pistol in question is an NN-14, which has a different design from the DL-44 blaster pistol used by Han Solo in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Rey shoots some stormtroopers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but her weapon is no match for Kylo Ren, who is able to block all of her shots with his lightsaber. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rey mostly uses her lightsaber, but she does accidentally fire a hole through the hut in which she is staying with her blaster pistol when being contacted by Kylo Ren.
The fans have been given a closer look at Rey’s blaster pistol in a new piece of concept art that has been uploaded to social media. The concept art was created by Matthew Savage, who has created concept art for Halo: Nightfall, Nightflyers, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Savage uploaded the artwork to his Instagram account as a Christmas present to the fans, as it’s the contribution to Star Wars that he is most proud of. Savage also included drawings of the earlier designs for the blaster pistol, which was originally darker in color and included a scope. The unused design resembles several other blasters seen in the Star Wars series, including Han’s DD-14, Lando’s SE-14 light repeating blaster, and Jyn Erso’s A-180 blaster.
Star Wars:The Rise of Skywalker was plagued by leaks throughout its run, with the entire story of the film revealed by insiders before it hit the theaters. Concept art for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker leaked before release, which turned out to be legit and included several spoilers for the movie. It’s nice to see concept art for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker released by an artist who genuinely loved his work, rather than through unofficial means. Rey might not have used her blaster for long, but the number of fan made replicas of the gun on websites like Etsy proves that Savage’s contribution to the Star Wars universe was loved by many.
